On April 28, 2023, the production base of Cummins Enze (Guangdong) Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Cummins Enze”) proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis water hydrogen production equipment was put into operation, and the first localized product HyLYZER®-1000 was launched . The commissioning of this base marks that Cummins has built complete localized manufacturing of PEM hydrogen production equipment, R&D testing and customized service capabilities throughout the life cycle, which will accelerate the large-scale application of green hydrogen in China and the achievement of dual carbon targets.
The base is located in Foshan City, Guangdong Province. It is the first batch of gigawatt-level PEM electrolyzed water hydrogen production equipment factories put into use in China, and it is also the world’s leading green hydrogen equipment technology research and development and manufacturing base. The base covers a total area of about 70,000 square meters, including 4,500 square meters of office buildings, training and engineering centers. The factory adopts a lean and flexible production mode, which can complete welding, degreasing, assembly, testing and other processes. The production capacity of the first phase can reach 500 MW, and the second phase can be expanded to 1 GW.
Among them, the assembly line is built according to the flexible mixed-line production standard, and has the core capabilities of PEM equipment sub-assembly and components, subsystem testing, assembly and system testing, and can complete R&D testing, production testing, quality testing (IO/leakage/safety system) / Hydrogen production testing, etc.) and other key product and technology testing and verification.
At present, HyLYZER®-1000, Cummins Enze’s first domestically produced PEM electrolyzed water hydrogen production product, has been launched and is scheduled to be delivered before the end of 2023. PEM equipment parts can be 100% localized, thereby greatly reducing product manufacturing costs and realizing Rapid delivery, with continuous product performance improvement and application expansion, promotes the large-scale production of green hydrogen manufacturing equipment.
Nathan Stoner, global vice president of Cummins and chairman of Cummins China, said, “China is the most important market for Cummins, and it will also lead the pace of large-scale application of global green hydrogen technology and capabilities. Cummins has long been rooted in China, We will continue to invest in and develop leading green hydrogen technology and local manufacturing capabilities, provide customized solutions for Chinese users, and help achieve the dual carbon goals and the development of a zero-carbon economy.”
At the end of 2021, Sinopec’s Enze Fund and Cummins jointly invested in the establishment of Cummins Enze at a ratio of 50:50. development and large-scale application. After more than a year of development, the joint venture company has successfully deployed several sets of electrolyzed water hydrogen production equipment, including China Three Gorges Corporation’s “source-network-load-storage integration” project, and Sinopec Zhongyuan Oilfield’s renewable power electrolyzed water hydrogen production demonstration project. Among them, the Sinopec Zhongyuan Oilfield project has entered trial operation, with an annual production capacity of nearly 400 tons and a green hydrogen purity of 99.9995%. The hydrogen produced per day can be used by 106,106 buses for all-day driving, and the target is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2,200 tons per year.
The commissioning of the Cummins Enze green hydrogen equipment manufacturing base is a huge leap forward in promoting the innovative proton exchange membrane electrolyzer system. The base is located in Xianhu Hydrogen Valley, Nanhai District, Foshan City. Foshan City is one of the earliest regions in China to deeply cultivate the hydrogen energy industry. It is also the leading city in the Guangdong urban agglomeration for the demonstration application of fuel cell vehicles in China. Industrial cluster effect.
Guo Mingqiang, deputy secretary-general of the Foshan Municipal Government, said: “The Cummins Enze Proton Exchange Membrane Electrolyzed Water Equipment Production Base is a breakthrough in cultivating the hydrogen energy industry in the South China Sea. The continuous hydrogen energy production and supply system provides a strong guarantee and further promotes the technological development and industrial chain maturity of the hydrogen energy industry.”
